Lagos, April 10, 2017 (NAN) A teenage boy, Sanni Afeez, who allegedly attempted to commit suicide in police cell after absconding with a trader’s N89,000, was on Monday brought before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
The accused, 18, who supplies sachet water, is being tried for stealing and attempt to kill himself.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
But the Prosecutor, Sgt. Jimah Iseghede, insisted that the accused committed the offences on March 1 at about 9.00 a.m. at No. 5, Ogundare St., Sari-Iganmu, Orile on Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
He told the court that when Afeez went to supply Mrs Aminat Wahab, the complainant, bags of sachet water, he stole N89,000 from her bag and disappeared.
“The complainant had received a call and quickly dashed inside the house to attend to somethings and when she came back she discovered that Afeez had made away with her N89,000 kept in her bag. ”
Iseghede also alleged that the accused had also attempted to commit suicide in the police cell where he was kept.
The offences, he noted, contravened Sections 233 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015 (Revised).
The Magistrate, Miss Tolu Idowu, admitted him to a bail of N40,000 with one surety in like sum.
