Students urge FCT Minister to facilitate quick disbursement of bursaries

Abuja, April 6, 2017 (NAN) Association of Abuja Indigenous Students on Thursday appealed to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Malam Muhammad Bello to facilitate the timely disbursement of bursary allowance to students.

 

The President of the Association, Abubakar  Zuba, made the appeal in Abuja during  the launching Sen. Philip Aduda Scholarship and empowerment scheme.

 

Zuba called on the senator and the FCT minister to also champion the development of the association’s Secretariat.
Speaking at the ceremony Sen. Aduda said the scholarship is a deliberate effort to empower his constituent educationally irrespective of party affiliations.

 

Aduda disclosed that even though he is from a different political party, he has been collaborating with the FCT minister to improve the lots of his constituents.

 

According to him, the selection process for the beneficiaries was done through a committee made up of both APC and PDP representatives.

He further disclosed that the launching was a sign that the scheme had been empowering students for a period of time now.

According to Aduda, the scheme aims to embrace the economic diversification agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari by distributing fertilisers to indigent farmers.

Over 700 beneficiaries benefitted from the scholarship alongside the distribution of 50 Keke and 200 grinding machines to the less privileged.

Speaking earlier, Chairperson of the occasion, Sen. Biodun Olujimi described Aduda as a fighter for the FCT indigenes course.

Olujimi said Aduda is a leader that knows exactly what his people need and fights vigorously to achieve.

She urged the students to make judicious use of the opportunity to excel in their educational endeavour.

Speaking on behalf of all the Council Chairmen in FCT, the Chairman AMAC, Abdullahi Adamu Candido said the scheme was coming at a most deserving time owing to the present economic hardship.

Candido said irrespective of party differences they have a common course and called on political office holders to key into the initiative to provide succour to the citizens.(NAN).
