Abuja, April 6, 2017 (NAN) A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja on Thursday sentenced labourer, Precious Umede, 21, to three months imprisonment for stealing N1,400 and a cell phone worth N18,000.
Umede of road 111 Team Gwarinpa Estate, Abuja was earlier arraigned on a three-count charge of joint act, assault and theft.
The Judge, Mr Abubakar Sadiq, sentenced the convict accordingly when he pleaded guilty to the charge.
The judge also ordered the convict to pay N19, 500 as compensation to the complainant.
He warned the convict to be of good behaviour and to desist from committing crimes after serving out his punishment.
The Prosecuting Counsel, Mrs Florence Auhioboh, had informed court that one Baba Solomon of No 21 Road 131 Gwarinpa Estate reported the matter at the Gwarinpa Police Station on April 2.
Auhioboh said that on April 1 the convict and one Jimi now at large conspired and beat up the complainant for no cause.
She said that the convict forcefully collected N1, 400 and one Nokia Lumia valued N18, 000 from the complainant at Gwarinpa Village.
Auhioboh said that during police investigation, the convict admitted committing the offences.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 79, 265 and 287 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
