300 athletes to participate in Judo Championships in Port Harcourt

Abuja, April 6, 2017 (NAN) The Nigeria Judo Federation (NJF) on Thursday said that 300 athletes would participate in the National Judo Championship in Port Harcourt, Rivers.

The National Judo Coach, Bashir Bassey, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that the championships would hold from April 13 to April 16 at the Port Harcourt Gymnasium.

Bassey said that the championships would serve as trials to select judokas for the African Nations Cup in Egypt.

“Preparation is in top gear, the championship is for athletes in the U-17 cadre and for those in the junior category who are U-20.

“The competition is meant to select Nigeria’s flag bearers at the African Cadet and Junior Judo Championships in Cairo, Egypt from May 5 to May 7,’’ he said.

Bassey said that the number of judokas to represent Nigeria at the Nations Cup would be determined by the Ministry of Youth and Sports. (NAN)
