Batagarawa (Katsina State), April 6, 2017 (NAN) No fewer than 44,000 children were targeted for immunisation against Cerebrospinal Meningitis (CSM) in Katsina State, an official has said.
Dr Maawuyya Aliyu, the Executive Chairman, Katsina State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (KSPHDA), made this known at Barawa village, Batagarawa Local Government Area at the launch of the immunisation exercise.
He said that immunisation would be conducted in the affected communities of Batsari, Batagarawa, Jibiya, Faskari and Funtua local government areas.
He further said that over 6,000 children would be immunised in Barawa village alone.
“The vaccines are only meant for the affected communities, so as to curtail its spread to other parts of the state.”
Aliyu, therefore, urged parents to present their children aged between two and 15 years.
He advised people to sleep in a well-ventilated rooms and report any suspected case to the nearest health facilities for medical attention.
It would be recalled that the outbreak of CSM Type C, has killed over 41 persons and left hundreds hospitalised in the state.
NAN reports that no fewer than 282 persons had died in five states of the country in recent weeks.
Meanwhile, Mr Chikwe Ihekweazu, the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), confirmed the figure in Abuja.(NAN)
