Foundation cautions Nigerians against all forms of extremism

Kaduna, April 6, 2017(NAN) The Global Peace Foundation (GPF), on Thursday advised Nigerian to shun all forms of extremism, to ensure peace and harmony in their communities.

The foundation, which is pushing for peaceful coexistence in Kaduna State, is visiting communities and engaging stakeholders to engender peace, mutual respect and harmony.

The Country Director, GPF Nigeria, John Oko said during a visit to Afaka District and Maraban Rido in Igabi and Chikun Local Government areas respectively, that extremism only fuel conflicts and was inimical to peaceful coexistence.

He said it was important for communities to interface, built and sustain trust and respect amongst themselves in order to amicably address any problem that may arise.

Oko said the visit was to sensitize people not to allow crisis or negative happenings in other areas to spill over to their communities.

In their separate comments, the District Head of Afaka, Alhaji Aliyu Umar and the Village Head of Tudun Wada Kudansa, Mr Garba Sauri both pledged to continue with the mobilisation of their subjects against religious extremism and any form of reprisal
attacks.

The traditional leaders commended the foundation for its efforts to strengthen peace and tranquility in their communities.

“We are committed to sustaining everlasting peace and love in our communities,” they pledged.

Earlier, the Northern Co-coordinator GPF Nigeria, Rev. Joseph Hayab, said the visit was to encourage people to genuinely work for peace.

Hayab called on communities in the state to support government and security agencies in their efforts to end all forms of violence in the state.

The official said that the foundation would distribute a handbook to each participant that would aid and guide them in the task of ensuring lasting peace in the state.

Hayab said that the foundation was focussing on community volunteers drawn from religious and community leaders, as well as youth and women groups, who would propagate the message of `One Family Under God.'(NAN)
