Support
Benishiekh (Borno State), March 6, 2017 (NAN) The Victims Support Fund (VSF), on Thursday, said it was set to support 17,000 pupils affected by the Boko Haram insurgency in Borno.
The VSF Executive Director, Prof. Sunday Ochoche, disclosed this at the launch of distribution of educational materials in Benisheikh, headquarters of Kaga Local Government of Borno.
Ochoche said beneficiaries would be drawn from 30 primary schools in six local governments
devastated by the insurgency, namely Gubio, Chibok, Askira/Uba, Konduga, Kaga and Magumeri.
He added that the distribution and proper use of educational materials such as school bag and others
would improve the quality of education not only in insurgency affected areas, but the entire state.
He explained that “the lack of education is one major cause of Boko Haram insurgency, and to deal with this insurgency, we need to support and build education facilities in Borno.
“There is also the need to encourage pupils by distributing materials to children affected in this insurgency.
“We, therefore, look forward to significant improvement in the performance of Borno pupils and students nationally in education; we also want to see increased enrollment.’’
The Borno Governor, Kashim Shettima, appreciated the fund for supporting children affected
by insurgency with education materials.
Shettima, who was represented by Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Hassan Aminami,
said education was the greatest asset any nation could give its citizens.
He said the education sector got the lion share in the 2017 budget of the state, noting that
the increase was aimed at implementing projects and programmes that would encourage enrollment and studies. (NAN)
