Court sentences man to 3 months imprisonment for stealing neighbour’s cell phone

Abuja, April 5, 2017 (NAN) A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday sentenced one Precious Umede, 21, to three months imprisonment for assaulting his neighbour and stealing his Nokia cell phone worth N18,000.
Umede, who resides at Gwarimpa Estate, Abuja, was convicted of the three-count charge of joint act, assault and theft levelled against him.
He admitted committing the offences.
The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, however gave the convict an option to pay N10, 000 fine.
Sadiq also ordered the convict to pay N19, 500 to the nominal complainant and warned him to desist from committing crime in future.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Zannah Dalhatu , told the court that one Baba Solomon, a co-tenant with Umede, reported the matter at the Gwarimpa Police Station, on April 2.
Dalhatu said that the complainant alleged that on April 1, the convict and an accomplice still at large, beat him up and forcefully dispossessed him of his N1, 400 and his Nokia Lumia phone valued at N18, 000.
The prosecutor said that during police investigation the convict confessed to the crime.
According to him, the offences contravened Sections 79 265 and 287 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
