Abuja, April 3, 2017 (NAN) The FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Bello has announced that every Friday between 7a.m and 10 a.m be observed as sanitation hours at the Apo Mechanic Village, Abuja, to enhance clean environment.

Bello gave this directive during an unscheduled visit to the Village to interact with stakeholders in the spare parts market on Monday.

The minister noted that cleanliness is next to godliness, therefore, everything would be done to encourage the culture of cleanliness.

He urged the traders to work extra hard to clean their surroundings and make the place look like the international spare parts market it was envisaged to be.

Bello promised that the FCT Administration would also support in the effort by providing trucks to evacuate all the refuse collected every Friday.

The minister stressed that the administration will give priority to the completion of the Wasa Spare Parts Market so that most traders who do not have shops in Apo can be relocated there to do their business.

He promised to look into the complaint that 98 hectares of land allocated to them at Kubwa, which covers about 4,000 shops, was allegedly marred with fraud.

Bello said that the 10-lane road from Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway (Ring Road I) to Wasa Resettlement Camp would be well funded to enable the contractors’ deliver on time.

While calling on the traders to be good residents of the Federal Capital Territory, the minister enjoined them to continue to support the government and pray for the success of President Muhammadu Buhari’s Administration.

Welcoming the minister, the General Chairman of Apo Traders Association, Chief Chimezie Ifeh, thanked the Minister for taking time off his busy schedule to visit them.

Ifeh, however, alleged that the 98 hectares of land allocated at Kubwa which covers over 4, 000 shops was hijacked by some of their leaders.

“We are asking for a high powered Ministerial Inquiry into Kubwa land allocation fraud.

“The said allocation was shared among themselves who then sold to very few traders,” he added.(NAN)
