Ilesha-Baruba, (Kwara) April 3, 2017 (NAN) Prof. Halidu Abubakar, the Emir of Ilesha-Baruba in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara has called for Federal and State Governments’ urgent intervention on alleged land encroachment by some villages in Oyo state.
Abubakar said on Monday that the call became necessary to avert communal crisis between residents of villages in the two states.
The Emir, who paid an inspection visit to the affected communities of Babane, Adegbangba, Baru Guma and Budo Geesi on Monday, faulted Oyo State Government for building public facilities to re-demarcate the disputed area.
“The frequent land encroachment in border communities, particularly between llesha-Baruba District of Baruten Local Government of Kwara and Kishi in lrepo Local Government of Oyo is as a result of negligence of past administrations.
The first-class monarch appealed to the state government and other relevant authorities to assist llesha-Baruba district to reclaim the areas to forestall communal differences and increase viability of Baruten Council.
On infrastructural deficiency in the area, Abubakar said the people were barely surviving as there were no basic amenities like good road, water in the area.
According to him, there must be a deliberate programme to address the problem of people in hinterlands who are away from the centre regardless of the prevailing economic recession.
Earlier, the Village Head of Babane, Alhaji Umar Suno-Suru commended the emir for the visit, saying such visits would help in dousing the tension in the area. (NAN)
