Workshop on migration policy opens in Kebbi

A two day workshop on migration governance (policy) opened in Birnin Kebbi, north-west Nigeria on Thursday.

The workshop is being attended by officials from ministries, development agencies and community-based organisations.

The National Commissioner for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), Hajiya Sadiya Farouq, said the workshop would discuss the implementation of provisions of the 2015 National Migration Policy.

She said the workshop would duel on the peculiar migratory orientation of north-west in the country.

“The workshop also aims at integrating the states, local government and civil society organisations on migration governance structure.

She said the commission would establish a migration desk in
all the states to serve as liaison offices with each of the geopolitical zones.

She commended the Swiss Development Cooperation

for funding and support to the commission as the coordinating
agency on issues relating to migration in Nigeria. (NAN)
