Dutse, March 29, 2017 (NAN) The Jigawa State Government says it will spend N624 million on cluster farming in 2017.

According to Alhaji Gambo Aliyu, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, the money would be used to purchase farm inputs like fertiliser, pesticide, herbicides and other improved seeds.

Aliyu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Dutse, that 12,000 farmers would be engaged to cultivate about 8,100 hectares of land.

He said that the farmers would grow cash crops like wheat, rice, sesame, groundnuts and tomatoes.

Aliyu said that government was paying special attention to massive production of wheat to feed local industries.

“We expect that the massive production of wheat will ensure adequate raw materials for flour and bread production in the country,” he said.

He said that the programme would soon commence and expressed optimism that its impact on Nigeria’s economy will be huge. (NAN)
