Bwari (FCT), March 29, 2017 (NAN) Mr Musa Dikko, the Chairman, Bwari Area Council, FCT, says his administration is committed to ensuring effective and timely refuse evacuation to keep the environment clean.

Dikko stated this on Wednesday while supervising refuse evacuation at Kubwa Phase 2 -1, Bwari.

He urged residents to bear the inconvenience the exercise might cause as the evacuation is meant to safeguard their health and put in place the proper ways of managing waste.

“We want to assure the residents of Bwari Area Council, particularly those in Kubwa, to be patient as this waste that has been dumped for over five years cannot be evacuated within three days.

“We are committed to making sure that between now and a few days, this waste will have been taken care of to a well designated area.

And next, we are going to make sure that security personnel are stationed at  this point, who will be directing the people on where and how to dump them (refuse) appropriately.”

The chairman said the exercise was carried out in close collaboration with the Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD).

Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mr Ayo Delege, the Supervisor of Environment, Bwari Chapter of STDD, said ten trucks, measuring 50 cubic metres, had been deployed to sustain the exercise.

“It took time for us to look at the best practice; before now we use ten tyre tippers.

“If you look at what we are using now, it is acknowledged worldwide that this is the best way to carry wastes.

“It is not going to be dropping on the road; it is cleaner and safer while we are at work, then it takes more volume of wastes down to the dump site at once.”
