Lagos, March 29, 2017 (NAN) The International Hockey Federation (FIH) says it has unveiled a free Rules of Hockey smartphone application, available on android and iOS devices.

FIH said on its website on Wednesday that the application consists of its official details and the body’s current rules in hockey.

It added that the application would provide officials, players and fans with an “easy-to-use and accessible resource’’.

According to the body, the application is created by Mobanode, an application designing company that have created similar products for rugby, cricket and other sports.

The body said that the application would be constantly updated to reflect approved rules and regulations amendments and also include quiz in order to allow users to test their knowledge.

Jason MaCracken, FIH Chief Executive said the application was launched with a view to replace printed rule books previously distributed from the FIH’s headquarters in Lausanne.

“This app was developed with two key questions in mind: how can we reach a much wider audience with what we know is an incredibly important development tool.

“And how can we produce such information in a more sustainable format? With smartphone ownership increasing across the world, we believe this will be extremely useful.

“It will engage educational resource for everyone involved in our sport, particularly younger generations who are important to our future.

“This tool has yet another important component of our 10-year hockey revolution strategy aimed at making hockey a global game that inspires the next generation.

“In particular, this app will be key to helping us achieve our aim of increasing professionalism across the sport by increasing awareness and understanding of the rules that govern it,’’ MaCracken said. (NAN)
