Lagos, March 29, 2017 (NAN) Ex-international, Victor Ikepba, has applauded the League Management Company (LMC) for promoting professionalism in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

Ikepba told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Lagos that the national league is still developing and could not be compared with those leagues that have advanced.

The former FC Monaco of France player and 1997 African footballer of the year urged up-and-coming domestic league players to raise their game to enable them contribute meaningfully to the growth of their national teams.

I think LMC has done a great job especially with the TV, the games are seen around the African continent

“I don’t think we are at that level compared to the PSL or the Egyptian league but there are lots of talents.

“The likes of Stephen Ode, the likes of Sikiru Olatunbosun, there are always good players in the Nigeria league.

“Yes the only setback I see, especially Rivers United not getting the better of the Sudanese side, is only a setback for the players back home, because if they have gone to the next level.

“It would have been easy for these players to be invited to the Super Eagles.

“But a lot of positives coming into our league they have to continue to work hard when it comes to continental football.

“But domestically our football is getting better, not exceptional but it’s getting better from season to season.
