NNL: Obaseki’s support spurs Insurance to victory in Benin

Benin, March 25, 2017 (NAN) The Insurance FC of Benin on Saturday secured their second consecutive home victory in the Nigeria National League (NNL), with Gov. Godwin Obaseki in the stands to cheer them to victory.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Edo government-owned Benin-based club side, defeated visiting Papilo FC, owned by former Nigerian international, Nwankwo Kanu, by two goals to one.

Insurance of Benin scored first through Williams Ukama in the 24th minutes while Charles Omoregbe doubled the tally in the 68th minutes.

However, Papilo FC fought back hard and got a goal in the 89th minute of the game through Kingsley Edwin.

Insurance now has six points from two matches they played so far in the NNL, having won by a lone goal victory in their first game with My People FC.

Meanwhile, Gov Obaseki, who watched the match along with his Deputy, Philip Shaibu, expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the match.

He assured team of his administration’s total support for the club to gain promotion at the end of the season.

Shaibu had on Friday urged the players to see his training with them as a moral booster to win Saturday’s match against Papilo. (NAN)
