Advocacy
By Emmanuel Oloniruha
Abuja, March 23, 2017 (NAN) The Coalition of All Progressives Congress (APC) Support Groups says it will begin advocacy tour of the grassroots across the country to popularise the party’s manifesto, especially on good governance.
The groups made the promise after its inauguration in Abuja on Thursday and said the coalition would collaborate with party leaders at levels in the advocacy.
Amb. Mohammed Munir, the National Chairman of the coalition, said in a statement that the grassroots mobilisation and advocacy tour in that regard was to stimulate a process to victory for APC in the 2019 general elections.
“We also intend to streamline the entire APC Support Groups across the states, majority of which are not known to the national leadership for better management,’’ he said.
He observed that streamlining the support groups would put to rest the tradition of disgruntled politicians that used the local media on the platform of the perceived disunited groups.
“More than 2,000 groups applied for recognition when the support groups began to spring up but only 150 groups were given recognition.
“For effective management, the party leadership came up with an idea of coalition of the groups which informed this coalition with the appointment of interim officers.
“The groups have been working to help the party to achieve its desired goals of achieving greater change and good governance.
“The groups are committed to the party’s resolve to run a government in which it will be possible for all Nigerians to live a decent and safe life,’’ he said.
He said the groups would use the tour to bring together various support groups of the party that felt aggrieved by not gaining recognition earlier.
Amb. Munir and Amb. Sokari Afiesmama were elected as National Chairman and National Publicity Secretary for the coalition respectively.(NAN)
