Abuja, March 22, 2017 (NAN) A Kado Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday sentenced a 22-year old man, Joseph Theoplus, to two months imprisonment for stealing a cell phone valued at N50,000.
The judge, Alhaji Ahmed Ado, however gave the convict an option of N3,000 fine.
Ado said the sentence would serve as deterrent to others and warned him to desist from the act.
He also advised the convict to look for a decent job.
Theoplus, who resides at Utako village, Abuja, was convicted on a charge of stealing.
The convict had prayed the court to temper justice with mercy.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Zannah Dalhatu, told the court that one Adeye Ademola of Lagos State reported the matter at the Utako Police Station, Abuja, on March 17.
Dalhatu said that the convict on same date stole Ademola’s Infinix phone valued at N50, 000.
He said the convict was about to escape when he was arrested.
He said during police investigation, the convict confessed to the crime and the phone was recovered from him.
