Ilorin, March 20, 2017 (NAN) Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara has said called on community associations, old student associations and other stakeholders in education sector to contribute toward revamping the sector in the state.
Ahmed made the call on Monday at the Government House,Ilorin when he received members of Government Secondary School Omu-Aran Old Boys Association (OGSSOBA), led by its President, Mr Olusegun Adeniyi.
The governor said the call became necessary because intervention in education sector required input and strong support from the state holders for the state government to succeed in the task.
He said the state government would intervene by providing facilities in a number of secondary schools across the state, to make learning environment more conducive for students.
Ahmed said the schools were government’s intervention was required include, Government Secondary School, Ilorin, Queen Elizabeth School, Ilorin, Government Secondary School, Omu-Aran and Offa Grammar School, Offa.
The governor urged stakeholders to make their input by contributing to their Alma mata to complete government’s effort to revamp the sector.
He said the state government had earmarked funds, under the Infrastructure Development Fund (IDF), to meet the needs of secondary schools in the state.
Ahmed assured people of the state that with improvement in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), more critical development-oriented projects would be executed by his government.
Speaking earlier, Adeniyi said the association had intervened in various projects and programmes of its Alma mata, worth about N200 million.
He also said the association had over the years awarded scholarship to students for exhibiting exemplary performance in their educational pursuits.
The president was accompanied on the occasion by a former acting Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Otunba Jide Adebayo and retired Maj.- Gen. Yemi Abidoye, former Commander, Ordinance Corps of the Nigerian Army.
Others were Mr Ayo Fagbemi, a retired Permanent Secretary in the state, Mr Nasiru Ibrahim and Jubril Haruna.(NAN)
