Ilorin, Oct. 4, 2016 (NAN) The Kwara Ministry of Sports and Youth Development says it has concluded plans to resuscitate Inter-House Sports competition among secondary schools in the state.

The Commissioner, Bolakale Ayo, made the assertion in Ilorin at a Press Conference heralding the Kwara All Secondary Schools Tennis Championships on Monday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the competition was put together by Optiweb Communications Ltd., in conjunction with Kwara Tennis Association.

‎Ayo restated the state government’s commitment to embark on aggressive grassroots sports development to discover talents from the cradle.

He appealed to the youth to brace up to overcome their current challenges.

The commissioner commended the sponsor for the initiative, adding that the government would continue to provide the enabling environment for sports and youth development.

The Chairman of Kwara Tennis Association, Tope Daramola, in his address of welcome, said the programme was aimed at discovering future top class tennis players.

He said the ‎objective of the championships, which would feature boys and girls singles and doubles, was to catch them young from the secondary school level.

Also, the ‎Director of Sports, Coach Tunde Kazeem, charged the various associations to look for sponsors as government alone could not shoulder sports development.

The Marketing Manager, Optiweb Communications, Eguono Ochuko, said the company believed in the development of younger Nigerians.

He said the company was investing in the competition to contribute its quota to sports development in Nigeria.

Ochuko said the company was resolute on taking the championships to the zonal and national levels in due course.

NAN reports that the competition will begin from Oct. 12 to Oct. 15, at the courts of the state’s stadium complex. (NAN)
