Omu-Aran (Kwara), March 17, 2017 (NAN) Workers in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara have been commended for maintaining a high level of environmental hygiene despite being owed arrears of salaries.

Mr Kazeem Adekanye, Chairman of the Council, made the commendation during an interactive session with the workers and officers in Oro, Kwara, on Friday

He lauded the council’s ‘Clean and Green’ scheme and worker’s steadfastness in maintaining hygienic environment.

Adekanye, also President of National Youth Council, Kwara chapter, said the high level of efficiency of the firm handling the scheme ensured prompt disposal of garbage/waste to prevent disease infection on humans and the environment.

“It is only in a clean, safe and hygienic environment devoid of diseases and infection that the desired growth, progress and development can be guaranteed at the grassroots.

“Your function as environmental workers is very critical to the state government’s rural integration initiative in adding values and bringing healthcare delivery nearer to the people.

“I am quite impressed by your patriotism and commitment, not minding the financial constraint staring everyone in the face as a result of accumulated salary arrears.

“We can only reciprocate this gesture by ensuring your wellbeing through prompt settlement of your outstanding salaries and other incentives. That is our major preoccupation as your representative in government”, Adekanye said. (NAN)
