NEMA confers Humanitarian Service Award to GOC

Maiduguri, March 17, 2017 (NAN) The Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division, Nigerian Army, Brig.-Gen. Victor Ezugwu, has been conferred with the Humanitarian Service Award by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for his outstanding support to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
The NEMA North East Coordinator, Alhaji Mohammed Kanar, presented the award to the GOC at the Headquarters, 7 Division, Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri.
Kanar remarked that the people of Borno were highly indebted to the Nigerian Army under the command of the GOC, for liberating 22 Local Government Areas hitherto under the control of Boko Haram terrorists.
He also said that the award was in recognition of the role played by the Army in rendering humanitarian services to the under-privileged in the state including IDPs in Bakassi Camp.
“This has really endeared the GOC to the people of the state and other non-governmental organisations,” Kanar said.
Ezugwu expressed gratitude for the award and dedicated it to “the gallant officers and soldiers who paid the supreme price in the fight against terrorism in the North East.”
He commended NEMA for its steadfastness and resilience in the discharge of its humanitarian operations, and assured it of the Army’s continued support.(NAN)
