3rd NYG Joint Technical Meeting adopts 4 more team sports

Ilorin, March 17, 2017 (NAN) The Joint Technical Meeting of the 3rd National Youth Games (NYG) has adopted  football, basketball, handball and volleyball as some of the team sports for the competition.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Cricket is the only team sport that featured  in the second  edition of the Games.

A communique jointly signed by Ademola Are and Malam Tunde Kazeem, Chairman and Secretary of the communique drafting committee respectively, said the meeting also adopted the date for the competition.

According to the communique, it will hold from Aug. 28 to Sept. 8 at the Sports Complex of the University of Ilorin.

It said the technical meeting stipulated that an athlete who had represented the nation in an international meet could also participate in the Games.

The communique urged participating states to ensure that their  athletes were within the age bracket of 17 years or below so as maintain the credibility of the competition.

It warned that any state with an ineligible athlete should pay a fine of N50,000 per athlete in addition to disqualification of the identified athlete.

According to the communique, the team secretary and coach of the affected sport shall be suspended from further participation in that edition.

It said the meeting resolved that Rowing and Canoeing should be demonstrated at the Games for second time before further consideration.

It also resolved that the hosting right for the 4th and 5th editions of the Games shall be thrown open for states to bid.

The communique called states that would bid to write a letter of intent for possible hosting of the Games to the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development. (NAN)
