Sanction
By Sunday John
Lafia, March 16, 2017 (NAN) Mr Mohammed Haliru, the Education Secretary , Lafia Local Government Area (LGA) of Nasarawa , has threatened to sanction teachers abandoning their duty posts without official permissions.
Haliru, who gave the warning on Thursday in Lafia at a meeting with head teachers of public primary schools, said that such an action amounted to dereliction of duty.
He said that the decision was to enhance the performance of teachers in the area and be fully committed to what they were employed and being paid to do.
Haliru said that truancy, lack of punctuality, among other negative attitudes demonstrated by some teachers, were factors responsible for the fallen standard of education in the area.
“These negative attitudes on the parts of some teachers and some head teachers are capable of truncating and mortgaging the future of the pupils they are supposed to impact knowledge to.
“The authority will step up its supervision of all public schools in the area and anyone found culpable will face serious sanction,” the secretary said.
He also directed head teachers to ensure that teachers under them write their lesson plans regularly and always teach their pupils the subjects indicated on the class timetables.
Haliru said that the council’s authority would sanction any worker who tried to sabotage the huge investment made by the government to the success of the sector.
“The government has invested much in the educational sector by building more structures and providing equipment to public schools across the state,” he said.
The council official also said that the authority would monitor the teachers posted to the area under the Federal Government’s N-Power Scheme to avoid redundancy. (NAN)
