Lagos, March 15, 2017 (NAN) A contemporary African artiste, Tunde Adeniron on Wednesday said that the promotion of African culture would help preserve its norms and values.
Adeniron in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos said “sustaining the continents’ cultural heritage is needful in helping us showcase our strength in diversity.”
“It is true that the world is evolving into a technologically driven society but it shouldn’t affect our live styles.
“Unfortunately the reverse is the case because lot of traditional functions have been abandoned and nothing is being done about it.
“Am not transforming into the ideas held by the new generation not because I cannot but my parents have instilled in me traditional values while growing up,” he said.
He expressed concerns over the `extinction’ of a number of festivities that brought out the best of our culture and pleaded to authorities to assist in the re-establishment of such activities.
“Our value system as a people has been watered down since we lost touch with activities that remind us of our origin”.
“No one will belief if we were told then, that we won’t have masquerades come out in almost every week of the month.
“I am not against modern religion but I am of the opinion that we have our own culture and should be allowed to fully express ourselves in what we believe is a blessing from our fathers.
Adeniron called on cultural enthusiasts to break the trend of imbibing foreign culture by sensitising their wards into practicing their culture from childhood.
