Man, 45, bags 4 weeks community service for attempted car theft

Lagos, March 13, 2017 (NAN) An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Monday sentenced a 45-year-old man, Olamilekan Yusuf, to four weeks community service for attempting to steal a car with a master key.

Chief Magistrate Alexander Komolafe gave the judgment after Yusuf pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of intent to commit felony and unlawful tampering.

“Based on the facts of this case and plea for leniency, I hereby sentence you to four weeks community service without an option of fine,’’ Komolafe held.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Joseph Ajebe, had told the court that Yusuf, a resident of No. 11, Omotorisha St., Ikosi, Idimu, Lagos, was arrested on Feb.1 at 6.20a.m. while attempting steal a Toyota Camry.

Ajebe said that the attempted theft occurred at No. 24, Alimosho Road, Lagos.

He submitted that the convict specialised in stealing vehicles from parks, adding that he usually opened the vehicles with a master key.

Ajebe said that Yusuf was arrested while attempting to drive away the car with registration number KTU-835 EH, belonging to Mr Ibrahim Samuel.

He said that the convict also possessed two other car keys which he could not properly account for.

He said the offences contravened Sections 307 and 338 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. (NAN)
