Abuja, March 9, 2017 (NAN)The Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) said it has concluded plans to apply legislative measures to enforce the compulsory monthly sanitation in the council.
Mr Abdullahi Candido, the Chairman of the council, made this known on
Thursday in Abuja at the passing-out parade and launching of the AMAC Environmental Enforcement Cadet.
He said that the cadet scheme was part of the council’s effort to effectively deal with the lingering environmental problems.
Candido said that the exercise would commence immediately to help tackle the environmental challenges in the council.
He said the return of the sanitation became more imperative with the rapid population growth and daily migration of people into the FCT.
Candido said that the cadets had the mandate to go into various communities to educate and sensitise the people while enforcing discipline in the council.
He called on all residents to co-operate with the authorities by ensuring that the success of the monthly exercise.
Candido urged the management of all markets in AMAC to choose a day within the week as their environmental sanitation day.
“The unsanitary conditions of our villages and communities are appalling and need a great sanitary awakening.
“That’s why I call on all and sundry to partner with the council to rid our surrounding of refuse and restore sanity in our environment.
“It is time we begin to preach attitudinal change in our communities, dumping of waste in gutters and drains or ignoring the sanitary conditions of our environments will continue to affect our health.
“The council has provided various waste collection points in all the communities, waste bins and environmental bags to enable residents dispose their waste.” he said. (NAN).
