Enugu Govt. revalidates contracts for construction of semi-urban, rural roads

Enugu, March 9, 2017 (NAN) Enugu State Executive Council has approved the revalidation of contracts for the construction of rural and semi-urban roads across the state.

The Commissioner for Information, Dr Godwin Udeuhele, made this known when he briefed newsmen in Enugu on Thursday on the outcome of the council meeting held on Wednesday night.

Udeuhele said that the move was to get the roads done and alleviate the sufferings of the users.

He mention some of the roads approved for revalidation as Ogurute-Igogoro-Amachalla-Ubaike-Oboloafor Road in Enugu North senatorial district.

He said that the contract was revalidated from N98.04 million to N153.21 million due to the desire of the state government to deliver the job on schedule.

The commissioner said that the contract was being handled by Ferotex Construction Company Ltd.

He said that the contract for the construction of Nguru-Edeoballa-Ehalumona Road awarded to the same contractor was also revalidated From N108.6 million to N114.46 million.

He said the that award of new contracts were also approved, including the completion of the Orie Emene-Adoration Ground Road to Amitec Construction and Development Company at the sum of N591.89 million.

“The council also approved the award of contract for the rehabilitation of Trans Ekulu Flyover Slip Road to Buzuzu Construction Company at the sum of N46.68 million,” he said.

The commissioner said that the deplorable condition of the flyover road had been a serious source of worry to motorists and other roads users.

Udeuhele said that the waterway and flood control at Ebeano Tunnel in Enugu also received attention as N72.01 million contract was approved in favour of J. Quarison International Ltd.

“This was sequel to the recent flood problems which completely blocked the waterways and resulted to overflow causing embarrassing situations on the dual carriageway.

“This problem has remained unabated and a source of concern to residents of the state,” Udeuhele said. (NAN)
