Niger SDGs to boost healthcare with N559m

Minna, March 8, 2017 (NAN) The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Niger says it will invest N559 million to boost healthcare services in the state in 2017.

The Director-General of SDGs in the state, Mr Adamu Ayawa, disclosed this on Wednesday during the 2017 budget defence of his agency at the state House of Assembly.

According to him, N243.6 million has been budgeted for Basic Primary Health Care, N43.3 million for intervention in health institutions, N72.5 million to purchase essential drugs and N200.3 million for hospital equipment.

Ayawa said that the total budget of the agency for 2017 was N1.9 billion as the state and federal governments were expected to pay N849.9 million as counterpart fund.

He further said that N297.7 million had been budgeted for education, N641.3 million for rural water supply and N31.3 million for community development centres, among others.

The director-general said that the 17 components of SDGs were largely aimed at addressing issues of poverty reduction in rural areas.

The Chairman of the House Committee on SDGs, Malam Nura Garba, commended the agency for its intervention in education, health, water and sanitation sectors.

He said that the sinking of solar powered bore holes in all local governments in the state was commendable, urging the SDG Office to do more. (NAN)
