Driver in court for alleged mischief

Abuja, March 8, 2017 (NAN) A 47-year-old driver, Taofeck Enilobo, was on Wednesday arraigned in a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for alleged mischief.
The defendant, who is standing trial on a count charge, resides at Lugbe, Abuja.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Florence Auhioboh, told the court that one Emmanuel Obasi, of Karmo, reported the matter at the Utako Police Station Abuja, on March 5.
Auhioboh said that the complainant alleged that on same date, the defendant was contracted to convey his wire glasses to a destination, but he drove carelessly.
The prosecutor alleged that he damaged 16 pieces of the glasses valued at N200, 000.
Auhioboh also said that the offence contravened Section 327 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge levelled against him, adding ” I am known for driving carefully.’’
Counsel to the defendant, Isaac Mathew, applied for his bail, and assured the court that the defendant would not jump bail.
The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, granted him bail in the sum of N30, 000 and one surety in like sum
Sadiq said that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and adjourned the case till April 5, for further hearing. (NAN)
