2 tricycle loaders bag 2 months imprisonment each for joint act, theft

Abuja March 8, 2017 (NAN) A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday sentenced one Yahaya Mohammed and Abdulrahaman Awolu, to two months imprisonment each for joint act and theft.

The Judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, however, gave them N5, 000 option of fine each.

The judge also ordered the two convicts to bring the stolen phone or refund N 6, 500 to the owner.

The convicts who reside at Utako Village, Abuja, work as loaders.

They were arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Zannah Dalhatu, told the court that one Abdul Yahaya, of First Avenue, Corner Shop, Gwarimpa, Abuja, reported the matter at the Utako Police Station on March 7.

“The complainant reported that he took his tricycle to Arab junction to pick passengers, where the accused work as loaders.
“ They dishonestly stole his Tecno phone and ran to unknown destination,’’ he said.

The prosecutor said that the cell phone was valued at N6, 500.

He said that during police investigation, the accused confessed to the crime and the two sim cards belonging to the complainant was recovered from them.

Dalhatu said that the accused persons admitted to have sold the phone.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 79 and 288 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
