Corruption
Kiev, March 7, 2017 (dpa/NAN) A Ukrainian Court has authorised the arrest of the country’s Head of Tax Office Roman Nasirov, on corruption charges with bail set at the equivalent of about 3.7 million dollars, the prosecutors said on Tuesday.
Nasirov was removed from power pending the duration of the investigation.
He was accused of committing a “series of unjustified and unlawful decisions” regarding the tax obligations of several companies in the past two years.
“Due to such actions, the country lost out on the equivalent of about 70 million dollars,’’ the prosecutors posted on the special anti-corruption prosecutor’s Facebook page.
Nasirov has been placed under arrest for two months pending trial.
Before his appointment to the tax service, Nasirov was a lawmaker with President Petro Poroshenko’s political party.
In 2016, anti-corruption organisation Transparency International labelled Ukraine and Russia the most corrupt countries in Europe. (dpa/NAN)
