Skills: Miss Tourism to train women, youths

Abuja, March 7, 2017 (NAN) Miss Tourism Nigeria 2016, Ogenna Walter said plans have been concluded through her pet project “Motivating African Youths Initiative,’’ to empower women and youths on various skills in the tourism sector.
Ekwubiri who made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Tuesday said the aim was to enable them be self-reliant, generate revenue, employment, as well as contribute to the nation’s GDP.
She added that the training would be tourism inclined to improve the sector, as well as contribute towards, hotel, beverage and hotel management in view of the dwindling resources in the oil sector.
“ I have an NGO called motivating African youths Initiative and our major project has been empower which is geared towards empowering female entrepreneur in tourism inclined businesses.
“ You know in the tourism sector you have the beverage, hotel and travel, recreation and entertainment.
“ The entertainment sector has contributed largely to the development of the Nigerian economy and to me that is major.”
She therefore, stressed the need for skills acquisition as a way to bring individuals “ out from the shackles of poverty.”(NAN)
