Decision
Tunis, March 3, 2017 (dpa/NAN) German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Friday that the decision to cancel a rally that Turkish Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag was due to address was made by the local community.
“We advocate freedom of opinion in Germany,” she tells journalists during a visit to the Tunisian capital of Tunis.
She said Germany had a federal system of government where decisions about security at events were made at a local level.
She said that Germany did not believe freedom of opinion was protected in Turkey, especially noting restrictions on the freedom of the press given the recent arrest of German-Turkish Die Welt reporter, Deniz Yucel. (dpa/NAN)
