Suspension
By Angela Atabo
Abuja, March 3, 2017 (NAN) The Inter Party Advisory Council of Nigeria (IPAC), on Friday condemned the suspension of the leadership of Labour Party.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that some youth members of the party said to be aggrieved, invaded the National Secretariat of the party in Abuja on Monday.
The youths also purportedly announced the suspension of the national chairman, his deputy and the acting national secretary of the party.
A statement signed by IPAC National Chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Nalado, in Abuja described the action of the youth members of the party as inappropriate and a recipe for anarchy.
Nalado said that Article 18 (1) of the Labour Party’ Constitution said the party’s national chairman may be suspended or removed from office on a vote of no confidence.
“This has to be passed by at least two-third majority at a National Convention convened solely by the chairman for such purpose,’’ he said.
He said Article 18(2) provided that any other officer of the party may be removed by two-third of majority of votes of the National Executive Committee or congress of a state, local government area or ward.
Nalado said that disagreement was inevitable in a political party but that it should be resolved through due process.
He called on stakeholders to dialogue in order to resolve their differences and embrace peace in the interest of the party. (NAN)
