Court remands 2 men in prison for alleged robbery

Lagos, March 3, 2017 (NAN) An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Friday remanded two men in Kirikiri Prisons for allegedly robbing a man of N200,000 and damaging properties worth N80,000 in a shop.

The Magistrate, Mrs E.O. Azeez who gave the ruling, refused to take the plea of the accused.

The accused, Ismaila Salami, 32, and Bamidele Olasunbo, 28, whose addresses were not provided, are facing four counts of conspiracy, stealing, robbery and destruction of property.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Ajayi Emmanuel, told the court that the offences were committed on Feb. 5 at Ogungbaye Street, Mushin, Lagos.

Emmanuel said that the accused with others, still at large, entered the shop of the complainant, Mr Ganiu Disu, and robbed him at gun point, stole N200,000 cash and damaged two sewing machines valued at N80,000.

He said that the accused also stole a phone valued at N75,000 and some cloths valued at N29,000.

“The accused and others, still at large, who were armed with sophisticated guns, axes and cutlasses, robbed Disu of his belongings, all valued at N384,000,” Emmanuel said.

He said the complainant raised an alarm and with the help of members of the community, the accused persons were apprehended.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened sections 295, 285, 409 and 337 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The magistrate adjourned hearing in the bail application until March 15. (NAN)
