Abuja, March 2, 2017 (NAN) A Gudu Upper Area Court in Abuja on Friday sentenced a 45-year-old man, Salisu Ahmed, to six weeks in prison for car fraud in the tune of N550,00.

Ahmed, of no fixed address, had pleaded guilty and was convicted on a three-count charge of criminal breach of trust, forgery and misappropriation.

The convict begged the court to “have mercy on me’’, as he was confronted with series of problems at the time.

“The time I sold the car, I had many problems; my son has sickle cell and nowhere to get money for treatment.”

The judge, Mr Umar Kagarko, however, gave the convict an option of N6,000 fine.

Kagarko also ordered the convict to pay back the N550,000 to the owner of the car.

He said the reason he gave such light sentence was due to the convict’s repeated plea for mercy and what he said he passed through.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Daniel Chuks, told the court that Ndagi Mohammed of
Kaduna street, Chika, Airport Road, Abuja, reported the matter at Garki police station in October 2016.

Chuks said that sometime in 2015, the complainant entrusted his Golf 3 Saloon car with reg. No RSH 79 TA custom colour with the convict through one Ibrahim Mohammed.

He said that the car, valued at N550,000 was entrusted to the convict in agreement for him to be remitting N15,000 to the owner every weekend.

The prosecutor said that Ahmed however took the car to Gombe State and sold it to
Abbas Bamabo at N400,000.

He said “Ahmed forged the vehicle particulars and diverted the money to his personal use.

“During police investigation, Ahmed admitted committing the crime.”

Chuks noted that the offences were contrary to sections 312, 364 and 389 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
