Committee warns traders against food adulteration in Jigawa

Dutse, March 1, 2017 (NAN) The Jigawa Consumer Protection Committee (CPC) on Wednesday appealed to traders to desist from adulterating food items because of its harmful effects on the people.
The chairman of the committee, Alhaji Farouk Abdallah, made the appeal while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Wednesday.
Abdullah said that the committee had destroyed 69 bags of adulterated flour worth N769,000 in Taura Local Government Area of the state.
He said that traders who perpetrated the act would soon face the wrath of the law.
The chairman said that the committee would ensure that the state was safe from all forms of adulterated consumables by ensuring that people bought items from genuine manufacturers.
NAN recalls that the committee had on Oct. 3, 2016, burnt adulterated goods worth N2.5 million in Gujungu International Market.
The items destroyed included 40 sacks of a leaf used in producing zobo (a local soft drink) and 60 sacks of adulterated animal feeds.
Others were 86 sacks of sesame seeds and four sacks of sharp sand used in adulterating sesame seeds by traders. (NAN)
