2 men in court over alleged house breaking

Abuja, March 1, 2017 (NAN) Two men, Emeka Jonathan, 26, and Chukwuemeka Obiowo, 37, on Wednesday, arraigned in a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, charged with burglary, theft and possession of property suspected to be stolen.

The defendants, who reside at Angwan Shehu village, Karmo, pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge levelled against them.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Florence Auhioboh, told the court that one Michael Daniel of same address with the defendants reported the matter at the Karmo Police Station on Feb. 23.

Auhioboh said that the complainant alleged that on Feb. 20, he travelled to Ondo State and on his return on Feb. 23, discovered that his room had been broken into.

The prosecutor said that the accused with one Tochukwu, who is at large, jointly broke into his room and stole a 32 inches LG plasma television, one Gotv decoder and one LG home theatre, all valued at N68, 000.

Auhioboh said that during police investigation a 19 inches LG television and some other items, which the accused could not give satisfactory account of how he came about, were recovered.

She said that the offences committed contravened Sections 79, 349 and 288 of the Penal Code.

The Counsel to the defendant, Cynthia Nnamdi, applied for their bail, and assured the court that the defendant would not jump bail.

The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, granted the two accused bail in the sum of N20, 000 each with one surety each in like sum

Sadiq said that the surety must reside within the court jurisdiction and adjourned the case till March 23 for further hearing. (NAN)
