Lagos, Feb. 27, 2017 (NAN) A tourism expert, Lauretta Togonu-Bickersteth, has urged practitioners in the tourism and hospitality industry to improve on the current standards and professionalism in the sector.

Togonu-Bickersteth told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Lagos that there was the need for the practitioners to improve on their services to attract international tourists and visitors into the country.

The resource person at the Wavecrest School of Hospitality said many tourists were attracted to popular tourist destinations such as Paris, Dubai and many others due to the quality of services operators rendered.
“Tourism and hospitality is a sector that can boost our economy if it is well structured and organised.
“The government has a major role to play, so also the stakeholders in the sector in the area of service delivery.
“We need to improve on our standard, professionalism, skills and the right work force that can deliver excellent services,’’ she said.
Togunu-Bickersteth also a consultant said that it was disheartening that the sector had not been properly harnessed.
She said that the country with over 70 tourism sites and products could provide employment opportunities to many unemployed Nigerian youths and also generate revenue for governments. (NAN)
