Gwio-Kura (Yobe), Feb.25, 2017 (NAN) Residents of Gwio-kura town in Yobe, say they are in celebration mood following the directive of Gov.Ibrahim Gaidam that the road from Garin-Alkali to Gwio-Kura be constructed.
Some elders in the community told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Saturday that construction of the road would stimulate economic activities through mass exploitation of the rich agricultural and livestock potentials endowed in the area.
Governor Gaidam had on Thursday, while on inspection tour of schools rehabilitation in the area, issued express approval for construction of the Garin-Alkali to Gwio-Kura road.
Alhaji Yahaya Jauro, a community elder, said the area had a lot of agricultural and livestock potentials, which were abandoned due to lack of good road.
Jauro, who is also a former commissioner, said “this road when completed, will turn around the economy of our people, who were heavily exploited by Shylock middlemen.”
Alhaji Musa Muhammad, a resident of Gwio-Kura said the Gaidam administration had solved the twin problems of school dilapidation and access roads in the community.
Manu Sarki, a student said “the road will increase the volume of trade and commerce and enhance economic growth.”
Abubakar Sani, a farmer said the Gaidam administration had solved the problem associated with transportation of farm inputs and farm produce into and out of the area.
While on tour of the area, the governor said insurgency in the North East was fast becoming ‘history’, assuring that government would concentrate on provision of infrastructures, including massive school rehabilitation to promote education.
“Boko Haram is now history; government will fulfill its obligation of providing people with infrastructures and services to improve their lives,” he said.
He also cautioned the people against electing politicians who would desert their constituencies after elections.
“You should avoid repeating the mistake of electing politicians who desert you after election and drive tinted glass jeeps for you not to see and have access to them.
“Such politicians do not have the interest of the people at heart and should not be given another opportunity” Gaidam said. (NAN)
