Bwari (FCT), Feb. 23, 2017 (NAN) The Bwari Area Council of FCT says it will work closely with stakeholders in the tourism sector to exploit the revenue generation potential of the area.

The Chairman of the council, Mr Musa Dikko, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bwari on Thursday.

He said although the area had abundant unique tourism features such as undulating rock views, the Lower Usman Dam, the rich cultural festivals of communities, such features remained untapped.

“Certainly, tourism is one area that we are really going to face in this administration, because tourism has a lot of potential.

“It has potential for unity, it has potentials for revenue generation; and it has potential for proper development of the area.

“We are looking at one part in Shere and one part in Kawu; we are going to see how much we can do to bring about partnership with wonderful people who have knowledge of tourism.

“We will see how we can open up a resort, I think it will not be a bad idea and it will be for the good of the people of Bwari Area Council and for revenue generation.”

Dikko further identified places such as Ushafa Pottery centre, underground cave and Lion-head rock in Dutsen-Alhaji community to be tourism destinations that had suffered low patronage in Bwari.

According to him, these tourist centres are capable of creating jobs for the teeming youth population to become self-employed.

“Refocusing on tourism will further help our administration to improve the living condition of people residing within the communities hosting tourism sites,” Dikko said. (NAN)
