Driver in court over alleged `sexual’ abuse of 4-year-old girl

Abuja, Feb. 22, 2017 (NAN) A 23-year-old driver, Yakubu Lazarus, was on Wednesday arraigned in a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for alleged `sexual abuse’ of a 4-year-old girl.
The defendant is standing trial on a one-count charge.
Lazarus, of Jabi Upstairs, Abuja, denied committing the said offence.
The prosecutor, Zannah Dalhatu, told the court that one Jonathan James of same address with the defendant, reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station on Feb. 18.
Dalhatu said that the complainant alleged that on Feb. 14, the defendant induced his 4-year old daughter, took her to his room and inserted his finger into her private part.
The prosecutor said that the complainant’s wife discovered this when she was bathing their daughter on Feb. 16.
Dalhatu also said that the offence contravened Section 275 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge, levelled against him.
Counsel to the defendant, Cynthia Nnamdi, applied for his bail, and assured the court that the defendant would not jump bail.
The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, granted him bail in the sum of N50, 000 and one surety in like sum
Sadiq said that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and adjourned the case till March 23, for further hearing. (NAN)
