Abuja, Feb. 22, 2017 (NAN) The Nigerian Air Force Officers’ Wives Association (NAFOWA) says it will provide more outreach programmes to the less privileged in the North-East region and other parts of the country.

The association President, Hajia Hafsat Abubakar, made the assertion in Abuja.

Abubakar spoke while playing host to the wife of U.S Ambassador to Nigeria, Mrs Susan Symington, and Mrs Gail Waldhauser, wife of United States Africa Command (AFRICOM).

NAFOWA president said that the visit was a pointer to the existing good relationship between the two countries.

She said that the organisation’s focus was on the outreach services which could impact positively on humanity.

“We build capacity amongst our women, youths and children in Air Force bases across the country.

“We also provide support and advocacy in the areas of children education, gender advancement issues and support to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the North-East,” she said.

Abubakar said that the organisation also engaged in skills acquisition, medical outreach and vocational training for the unemployed youths.

She said that the organisation was partnering with other sister organisations like Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA), Naval Officers Wives Association (NOWA), among others, to carry out its humanitarian programmes.

In her remarks, Symington urged the association to continue its good work, especially the humanitarian aspect to alleviate the sufferings of the needy.

Also, Waldhauser advised NAFOWA to strive harder to ensure that the needy do not lack basic necessities of life.

She said that this would go a long way in addressing poverty and other social vices among the youth in the country. (NAN)
