Lagos, Feb. 22, 2017 (NAN) An Apapa Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday in Lagos sentenced a scavenger, Jamilu Amusu, 23, to two years imprisonment for stealing  a generator.

The generator, valued at N75,000 belongs to one Victor Ogunbe.

Chief Magistrate M.A. Etti sentenced Amusu after he pleaded guilty to the charge.

“Based on the facts of this case; confirmed report and the plea of leniency, I hereby sentence you to two years imprisonment without an option of fine,” Etti said.

Amusu lives in Ajegunle , a Lagos slum.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Oluwasegun Kokoye, had earlier told court that the convict committed the offence on Feb. 7 at about 3.20 a.m. at No. 23, Abeje St., Ajegunle.

“Luck ran out on Amusu when he was caught by security guards, carrying a big sack popularly known as ‘Ghana must go’.

“The security guards stopped him while trying to run away and asked to know what was in the bag.

“Amusu lied that it contains his brother’s clothes but it was discovered that it was a generator.

“The convict was apprehended while trying to abscond with the stolen item and handed over to the police,” Kokoye explained.

He said the convict contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. (NAN)
