Lagos, Feb. 22, 2017 (NAN) An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday granted a N100,000 bail to an unemployed, Adeboye Sodiq, who was charged with stealing a N32,000 mobile phone.
Sodiq, 24, who resides at No. 10, Fagba Road, New-Oko Oba, a Lagos suburb, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of felony and stealing.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. M.O. Osinbajo, who gave the ruling, granted accused two sureties in like sum and directed that the sureties must show proof of means of livelihood.
Osinbajo adjourned the case till Feb. 25 for hearing.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Yomi Egunjobi, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Feb. 7 at about 1.00 p.m. at No. 5, Santos Avenue, New-Oko Oba, Abule Egba, a Lagos suburb.
Egunjobi said the accused stole a Techno phone valued at N32,000, property of the complainant, Mrs Bukola Babalolo, from her shop.
He alleged that the accused entered the complainant’s shop without her knowledge and stole the item.
“Sodiq, while trying to steal other things from the shop, held the complainant by the neck from behind.
“Bukola shouted for help and the accused was apprehended by passers-by who handed him over to the police,” Egunjobi said.
The offences contravened Section 285 and 306 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2011.
The accused, on conviction, may be sentenced to three years according to section 285. (NAN)
