NAN-F-27
Detention
Stockholm, Feb. 22, 2017 (dpa/NAN) A Danish court on Wednesday extended the detention of 21-year-old Chung Yoo Ra, a woman that is embroiled in South Korea’s influence-peddling political scandal.
According to the court ruling, Chung, who was arrested early January, will spend more days in detention in the next four weeks.
She is the daughter of Choi Soon Sil, the confidante of President Park Geun Hye.
Choi stands accused of meddling in South Korean state affairs.
The scandal has led to Park facing possible impeachment.
Chung’s four-week detention order was to expire on Wednesday; however, Danish prosecutors had requested an extension in order to analyse more information received from South Korea, which requested Chung’s extradition.
The president is accused of allowing Choi to review personnel files and giving her the chance to read official speeches in advance.
Chung, 21, is suspected of receiving favours from a Seoul-based university by taking advantage of her mother’s connection with the president, South Korean news agency, Yonhap, said.
At her initial hearing, she denied allegations of fraud, but said she had signed documents two or three times on her mother’s instructions. (dpa/NAN)
