Lagos, Feb. 21, 2017 (NAN) In compliance with the directive of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), the management of Benin Electricity Distribution Plc (BEDC), has concluded plans to roll out 39,000 meters in March.

Mr Meshaic Okhumeode, Head of Metering, BEDC, made the disclosure in a statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Lagos.

According to the statement, the decision to roll out the meters is the outcome of BEDC first quarter customer forum held in its coverage states of Edo, Delta, Ondo and Ekiti.

Okhumeode said the meter installation would be preceded by enumeration of customers on feeders servicing that earmarked locations to reduce power theft through bypass and illegal connections.

He said that the meters would be mounted on pole as against the practice of mounting them on residential premises,

According to Okhumeode, mounting the meters on pole will engender collective monitoring by both the residents within a neighbourhood and the service provider.

He reiterated the readiness of the BEDC to ensure total metering of its customers within the next five years.

He urged customers to be patient until the metering reaches them, as the metering would be done in batches.

In his remarks, Mr Abel Enechaizam, Head, Key Clients Services Group, said the forum was organised to dialogue with BEDC customers on ways to serve them better.

He said that during the forum, issues bordering on the operations and services of BEDC as well as customers’ expectations were discussed.

Mr Fidelis Obishai, Head, Edo State BEDC, said that the company was prepared to improve service delivery especially in the area of power supply.

He however warned against vandalising the company’s properties.

He said that the task of providing regular power supply to customers was being hindered by system collapse and low supply of power to the national grid. (NAN)
