Abuja, Feb.19, 2017 (NAN) The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) says it has begun a two- year Business Process Re-engineering (BPR) project to ensure better work culture and greater productivity.

Mr Ahmed Shekarau, Head, Public Relations and Media of AEDC said in a statement in Abuja on Sunday that 76 members of staff were selected as special task team to drive the reform project.

The Managing Director of AEDC, Mr Ernest Mupwaya, advised the staff of the company  in the statement to strive towards excellence in their duties.

Mupwaya said AEDC staff would not continue to do things the same way and he was expecting a different result, hence the establishment of the new BPR project.

According to him, with the privatisation of the power sector in Nigeria, customers’ expectations from the company are high, hence, the need for all staff to ensure improved service delivery.

He said AEDC was adopting operational global best practices, hence its ranking by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) as the best performing distribution company in Nigeria in the third quarter of 2016 .

He said the ranking could be sustained with greater commitment by employees in the discharge of their duties.

Similarly, the Coordinator of the BPR project, Mrs Clara Musama, said that the first phase of the project had been mapped out in 136 business processes to be adopted.

She said that 20 of the projects were new processes that were ready for implementation, adding that some of the processes were already being tested in the field.

Musama said that the approved processes were arrived at after 40 workshops between April and November 2016.

According to her, a new organisational structure for the company that is aligned to the new processes will be implemented soon.

She commended Tetra Tech, the US based consulting firm that trained AEDC’s staff through the processes of the project.

Musama appealed to the employees to be diligent as they were taking over the implementation of the project. (NAN)
