Governor’s wife NGO trains 300 women on different skills

Lafia, Feb. 18, 2017 (NAN) Mother and Child Care Enhancement Foundation, an NGO, has trained more than 300 women in different skills acquisition across Nasarawa State.
The founder of the NGO, Mrs Salamatu Al-Makura, said that each of 300 women would be given equipment based on their areas of specialisation to start their own businesses and be self reliant.
Salamatu Al-Makura, who is wife of Nasarawa State Governor, spoke on Saturday in Lafia at the 6th graduation ceremony of the trainees.
She added that since inception in 2011, the NGO had graduated and empowered over 10, 000 women from the 13 local government areas and 18 development areas of the state.
The governor’s wife explained that the gesture was part of her contribution to the development of the state and reduction of unemployment.
“We have also distributed 200 bags of rice to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Shabu and Shinge communities of Laifa.
“We shared food supplements to over 300 people living with HIV/AIDS in the state and trained 100 traditional birth attendants from all the local government areas of the state.
“We also distributed food items, cloths and cash donation of N10, 000 each to 1,200 widows in the state,” she said.
She commended the state government, Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, Institute of Human Virology, National Mass Education Commission and other partners for supporting the organisation.
Aisha Alhassan, Minister of Women Affairs, who spoke, commended the NGO for its role in complementing the efforts of the government by empowering women to be self-reliant.
She promised that the ministry would continue to support the organisation and all other groups willing to contribute to the development of the country.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the equipment distributed to the beneficiaries were: sewing machines, computers, hairdressing equipment, among others.
In attendance were representative of the Wife of the President, Mrs Pauline Talen; wives of governors of Kano, Gombe, Niger, Benue, Plateau, Adamawa, Kebbi and Borno states. (NAN)
